Description
Il Convento is a line of wines from the winery Gattavecchi in Montepulciano.
Montepulciano is a medieval and renaissance hill town in southern Tuscany.
The name ‘’Il Convento’’ refers to the former monastery of the Santa Maria dei Servi church. The monastery was built in the 13th century by the ‘’Padri Serviti’’ who have lived here until the 19th century.
The Gattavecchi family bought the monastery in 1958. In the underground caves the wines rest for more than two years.
Microclimate
Moderate temperatures throughout the year create favorable microclimatic conditions. In addition, the proximity of the lakes of Montepulciano, Chiusi and Trasimeno, and Mount Amiata has a positive effect on the local climate.
Production area
The production area is in Argiano and Ascianello, comune Montepulciano.
Soil
The soil is a mixture of clay and sand with marine pliocene sediment.
Characteristics
The wine Rosso di Montepulciano is ruby red. In the nose a smell of forest fruits, red plums and red cherries. On the palate elegant, smooth and harmonieus. The wine is perfectly balanced.
Rosso di Montepulciano is a nice Sangiovese wine and less tannic than the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. A versatile wine for even elaborate dishes.
