Il Convento is a line of wines from the winery Gattavecchi in Montepulciano.
Montepulciano is a medieval and renaissance hill town in southern Tuscany.
The name ‘’Il Convento’’ refers to the former monastery of the Santa Maria dei Servi church. The monastery was built in the 13th century by the ‘’Padri Serviti’’ who have lived here until the 19th century.
The Gattavecchi family bought the monastery in 1958. In the underground caves the wines rest for more than two years.
Moderate temperatures throughout the year create favorable microclimatic conditions. In addition, the proximity of the lakes of Montepulciano, Chiusi and Trasimeno, and Mount Amiata has a positive effect on the local climate.
Production area is in Argiano and Ascianello, comune di Montepulciano.
The soil is a mixture of clay and sand with marine pliocene sediment.
The wines of il Convento have a strong sense of identity. They are enjoyable, round, soft and good potential for aging. The wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is ruby red to garnet red. In the nose delicate aromas of ripe plums and red cherries. The taste is dry, powerful and warm. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a full bodied wine with elegant tannins and a long finish.
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is an appreciated wine throughout the world. In 1966 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano was actually the first DOC wine appear on the Italian market, and one of the first to get the DOCG status in 1980.
A rich and flavorful wine. It is the king of all wines! As the Tuscan poet Francesco Redi defined it in 1685.
