Poggio alla Sala

Poggio alla Sala

The historical wine estate Poggio alla Sala is nestled between cypress trees and olive groves in a beautiful landscape in Montepulciano.

Poggio alla Sala includes vineyards, olive groves, small farmhouses and a main farmhouse with villa situated at the summit.

Here you can breathe a mystic atmosphere. This is the place where the Etruscans once lived. Some Etruscan remains are found by archaeologists at Poggio alla Sala. These objects are now exhibited in a museum.

The villa and domain belonged to the noble family Bonci Casuccini. For his wines and olive oils he received wide recognition and several awards.

Since 1997 Poggio alla Sala has been owned by the Gattavecchi family. The 19th century villa hosts a resort, wellbeing centre and restaurant.

Harvesting is in September – October. The grapes are picked by hand to select the best bunches or grapes.

Enjoy reading my blog post: Hand picking the grapes.

The offices of Poggio alla Sala and Gattavecchi are close to the vineyards.

This is also where the winemaking process takes place, as well as the wine bottling, packaging and direct sales to customers.
