Pomona

Pomona

In this unique landscape lies the Pomona Estate, a small-sized family winery in the municipality of Castellina, a village close to Siena and 1 hour from Florence.

Pomona’s history goes back to the second half of the 18th century. In 1890 the great grandfather of Monica bought the farm “Fattoria Riccieri” in Castellina setting up a family farm.

Monica’s parents, Enzo and Inge Raspi, extended the business and started to make wine in 1982. Wine cellars and an olive oil mill were added.

Olive oil production and wine became a central feature of their agricultural practice.

In 2007 Monica Raspi decided to close her veterinary clinic and started to make wine on her family farm in Pomona.

Since 2012 Fattoria Pomona is a certified organic farm. The wines are organically produced.

The property covers an area of approximately 6 hectares of vines, olive groves and a vegetable garden where fruits and vegetables are cultivated.

The annual production is 25.000 bottles of wine.

The vineyards are planted mainly with Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Cabernet Sauvignon, the most important grapes used in making the Pomona wines.

The Pomona terroir is one of the most beautiful areas in the Chianti region and particularly suitable for wine growing.

Chianti Classico wines

The Chianti Classico DOCG and Chianti Classico Riserva DOCT wines are made from 100% Sangiovese grapes.

In addition to the well-known Chianti wines, Pomona also produces a variety of Tuscany IGT wines.

Siena

Siena is a culture rich city in the heart of Tuscany. Really worth seeing is the Piazza del Campo and  the imposing Duomo.

In Siena’s museums, palaces and churches you will find some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The city attracts millions of tourists each year.

But there is more! Apart from the rich history and architecture in Siena the countryside between Florence and Siena is the area of delicious food and high quality wines.

Tuscany is characterized by sloping hills with vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees. Chianti Classico is one of the most beautiful and important wine-producing areas of Tuscany.
